Step 2. Create association of Apple iPod Software with LINK files

If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the LINK file still does not use the Apple iPod Software program, it means no association. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the LINK file with the Apple iPod Software program.

Step 3. Update Apple iPod Software to the latest version

If, despite the association of the Apple iPod Software program with the IPod Link Format file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version.

Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. File problems can be divided into the following:

The affected file may be 0 KB or smaller than expected. This is most often caused by a problem while downloading the LINK file. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The most common cause here is computer viruses. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file LINK or the program directory. However, remember that not every infected LINK file can be recovered, so it is important to take care of regular backups.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the LINK file. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the ability to automatically repair LINK file corruption.
The program can also signal the fact of encryption. The encrypted LINK files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
Some of the system directories are excluded from modification. While there is usually no problem reading such a file, it may not be possible to save it. If possible, you can try to move the LINK file to another location.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. Some file types can only be opened in one program at a time. Closing other programs should help. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the LINK file again. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the LINK file for a certain period of time. If the problem persists, restart the machine.
