What is J2C file?

The file in the J2C format belongs to the Raster Image Files category. The creator of this file is Joint Photographic Experts Group. Raster Image Files consists of 522 similar files. JPEG 2000 Code Stream is supported by 3 operating systems. The file will work on Linux, Mac OS, Windows systems, unfortunately not on others. There are also 9 alternative programs to handle the J2C file. The Adobe Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, ImageMagick, IvanView programs will also handle the file when the Converter Pro program does not fulfill its role.

How to open J2C file?

The most common problem when using JPEG 2000 Code Stream is that a specific J2C is not associated with the program. Thus, when you open J2C, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. How to solve such a problem?

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the J2C file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install Converter Pro

In this case, you should first verify that the Converter Pro application is installed on the computer. To do this, enter the name Converter Pro into the system search engine. If it is not, installation may solve the problem, as most applications create file associations during installation. Below is a list of programs that support the file J2C.

Step 2. Create association of Converter Pro with J2C files

If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the J2C file still does not use the Converter Pro program, it means no association. This option is available from the level of Properties of a specific file available in the context menu. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the J2C file with the Converter Pro program.

Step 3. Update Converter Pro to the latest version

If, despite the association of the Converter Pro program with the JPEG 2000 Code Stream file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the J2C file

The problem may also be with the file itself if the above steps don't work. File problems can be divided into the following:

The affected file may be 0 KB or smaller than expected. Usually this applies to J2C files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The most common cause here is computer viruses. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our J2C file. As a result of the scan, sometimes it is not possible to recover J2C files, which are deleted if there is a backup of this file, then after restoring it, it must also be scanned.
Older version of J2C file may not always be supported by the latest software version. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged J2C files.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted J2C files can be used by the device on which they were encrypted, on any other device it is required to have the appropriate cryptographic key and decrypt the file before its recovery.
Some of the system directories are excluded from modification. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. Copying the J2C file to another location will fix the problem.
This problem usually affects more complex files. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Closing other programs should help. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the J2C file again. However, some background programs may block the J2C file while scanning. If nothing helps, please reset the device.
