Tips to open XML file
Can't open the XML file? You are not the only one. Thousands of users face similar problems every day. Below you will find tips on how to open XML files as well as a list of programs that support XML files.
XML file extension
The XML file is supported on 3 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the XML files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the XML file on each system platform.
What is XML file?
The .XML file is a text format file. It is a special data format. It is both computer and human readable. The specific form of notation based on tags causes that .XML files are often confused with .HTML files. Usually, the data they contain are used to transfer information between computer systems. It can be used to transfer settings, contain digital signature data or data downloaded from a database. When editing more complex .XML files, it is recommended to use a specialized XML editor instead of a simple text editor.
How to open XML file?
The main problem with XML Format is that the XML file is incorrectly associated with programs. This is manifested by the fact that XML files open in unusual applications or do not have an assigned program. How to solve such a problem?
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the XML file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install EditiX
An often overlooked issue is to make sure that EditiX is installed on the computer. This can be achieved by typing EditiX into the operating system search engine. If we do not have this program, it is worth installing it, as it will help you automatically associate the file XML with EditiX. Below you will find a list of applications that support XML files.
Programs to open XML file
Remember to download programs supporting XML files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of EditiX with XML files
However, it may happen that the application itself does not cause the XML file to open in the EditiX application, but you can set it manually. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The displayed window will contain information about the program that supports this type of file. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. The program should be visible in the window, otherwise it should be selected manually using the "Browse" button and the program installation directory should be indicated. However, it is important to check the "Always use the selected program ..." box, this will allow you to permanently associate the XML file with the EditiX application.
Step 3. Update EditiX to the latest version
If, despite the association of the EditiX program with the XML Format file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the XML file
Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. File problems can be divided into the following:
The XML file may be unusually small compared to the original file. Usually this applies to XML files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our XML file. However, remember that not every infected XML file can be recovered, so it is important to take care of regular backups.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the XML file. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged XML files.
The program can also signal the fact of encryption. The encrypted XML files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. Copying the XML file to another location will fix the problem.
This problem only occurs with more complex files. In this case, the XML file is blocked by the first application to open it. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. Sometimes you have to wait for the session to the file XML to close. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the XML file for a certain period of time. If nothing helps, please reset the device.
