What is XFO file?

XSL-FO Formatted Form is supported by 1 operating systems. These systems consist of Windows, although it may occasionally be found on another system, it will be non-functional. Alternatively, you can use 3 other programs. You can use Adobe Acrobat, Digiform Document Designer, 602XML Filler in case DIGIFORMS Document Designer cannot be used.

How to open XFO file?

The most common problem when using XSL-FO Formatted Form is that a specific XFO is not associated with the program. This is manifested by the fact that XFO files open in unusual applications or do not have an assigned program. This problem can be easily remedied.

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the XFO file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install DIGIFORMS Document Designer

The first step is to check if the computer has the DIGIFORMS Document Designer program installed. This can be achieved by typing DIGIFORMS Document Designer into the operating system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below is a list of programs that support the file XFO.

Step 2. Create association of DIGIFORMS Document Designer with XFO files

If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the XFO file still does not use the DIGIFORMS Document Designer program, it means no association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The displayed window will contain information about the program that supports this type of file. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the XFO file with the DIGIFORMS Document Designer program.

Step 3. Update DIGIFORMS Document Designer to the latest version

The fault may also lie with the DIGIFORMS Document Designer program, it is possible that XSL-FO Formatted Form requires a newer version of the program.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the XFO file

The problem may also be with the file itself if the above steps don't work. File problems can be divided into the following:

The XFO file may be unusually small compared to the original file. This suggests truncating the XFO file contents when downloading or copying. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file XFO or the program directory. As a result of the scan, sometimes it is not possible to recover XFO files, which are deleted if there is a backup of this file, then after restoring it, it must also be scanned.
Older version of XFO file may not always be supported by the latest software version. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
The file may be corrupted in a number of ways. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged XFO files.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted XFO files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. While there is usually no problem reading such a file, it may not be possible to save it. If possible, you can try to move the XFO file to another location.
This problem usually affects more complex files. In this case, the XFO file is blocked by the first application to open it. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the XFO file again. However, some background programs may block the XFO file while scanning. If this does not work either, restart the device.
