What is VNC file?

The file in the VNC format belongs to the Settings Files category. Settings Files consists of 1305 similar files. VNC Configuration Format appears on 3 operating systems as a functional file. Although it can be found with greater or lesser success on any operating system, it will only be useful on Linux, Mac OS, Windows. This file type can also be opened by 5 other programs. Microsoft Virtual PC, UltraVNC, TightVNC will apply when it is not possible to use VNC Enterprise Edition.

How to open VNC file?

The most common problem when using VNC Configuration Format is that a specific VNC is not associated with the program. This causes the file VNC to open by system applications not designed for this purpose, or to display a message that there is no associated program. This problem can be easily remedied.

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the VNC file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install VNC Enterprise Edition

In this case, you should first verify that the VNC Enterprise Edition application is installed on the computer. To do this, enter the name VNC Enterprise Edition into the system search engine. If we do not have this program, it is worth installing it, as it will help you automatically associate the file VNC with VNC Enterprise Edition. Later in this article you will find a list of programs that can open VNC files.

Step 2. Create association of VNC Enterprise Edition with VNC files

If, despite the installed application, the VNC file does not start in the VNC Enterprise Edition application, you must create a file association. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Changes can be made using the "Change" button. The program should be visible in the window, otherwise it should be selected manually using the "Browse" button and the program installation directory should be indicated. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the VNC file with the VNC Enterprise Edition program.

Step 3. Update VNC Enterprise Edition to the latest version

If, despite the association of the VNC Enterprise Edition program with the VNC Configuration Format file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the VNC file

If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. File problems can be divided into the following:

Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. This suggests truncating the VNC file contents when downloading or copying. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. Perform a virus scan using available and up-to-date anti-virus software. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our VNC file. Sometimes virus-infected VNC files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
This can happen especially when the program is dynamically developed and the structure of the VNC files changes over time. Help should be sought from the software developer, as they usually recommend using free file converters or installing an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Some programs offer the ability to automatically repair VNC file corruption.
The program can also signal the fact of encryption. The encrypted VNC files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. If possible, you can try to move the VNC file to another location.
This problem usually affects more complex files. Some file types can only be opened in one program at a time. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. Sometimes you have to wait for the session to the file VNC to close. However, some background programs may block the VNC file while scanning. If the problem persists, restart the machine.
