What is VBS file?

The .VBS file is a text file. It contains a script written in Visual Basic. It is executable by default, so be very careful when executing scripts of unknown origin. The language itself is used to support and extend the functionality of Microsoft's tools and programs. Sometimes there are also administrator scripts, but these days they are rare. There is also a branch of Visual Basic that implements the .NET platform with the ability to convert older programs.

How to open VBS file?

The main problem with VBScript Format is that the VBS file is incorrectly associated with programs. This is manifested by the fact that VBS files open in unusual applications or do not have an assigned program. This can be quickly resolved by following the instructions below.

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the VBS file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install Adobe Dreamweaver

In this case, you should first verify that the Adobe Dreamweaver application is installed on the computer. This can be achieved by typing Adobe Dreamweaver into the operating system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below you will find a list of applications that support VBS files.

Step 2. Create association of Adobe Dreamweaver with VBS files

If, despite the installed application, the VBS file does not start in the Adobe Dreamweaver application, you must create a file association. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. However, it is important to check the "Always use the selected program ..." box, this will allow you to permanently associate the VBS file with the Adobe Dreamweaver application.

Step 3. Update Adobe Dreamweaver to the latest version

The fault may also lie with the Adobe Dreamweaver program, it is possible that VBScript Format requires a newer version of the program. Some applications allow you to update from the program level, and for others you need to download the installer from the Adobe Systems Incorporated page and install.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the VBS file

Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. File problems can be divided into the following:

Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. This is most often caused by a problem while downloading the VBS file. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. Perform a virus scan using available and up-to-date anti-virus software. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. The scan should cover the entire computer, not only the VBS file that we want to open. However, remember that not every infected VBS file can be recovered, so it is important to take care of regular backups.
Older version of VBS file may not always be supported by the latest software version. Help should be sought from the software developer, as they usually recommend using free file converters or installing an older version of the program.
The file may be corrupted in a number of ways. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged VBS files. You can restore the file from a backup or use Microsoft help.
The program can also signal the fact of encryption. The encrypted VBS files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
Some of the system directories are excluded from modification. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. It is best to move VBS to a different directory.
This problem only occurs with more complex files. In this case, the VBS file is blocked by the first application to open it. Just close unnecessary programs. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the VBS file again. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If nothing helps, please reset the device.
