What is UFO file?

How to open UFO file?

The most common problem when using Ulead Format Object is that a specific UFO is not associated with the program. Thus, when you open UFO, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. How to solve such a problem?

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the UFO file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install PhotoImpact

The first step is to check if the computer has the PhotoImpact program installed. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name PhotoImpact in it. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Later in this article you will find a list of programs that can open UFO files.

Step 2. Create association of PhotoImpact with UFO files

However, it may happen that the application itself does not cause the UFO file to open in the PhotoImpact application, but you can set it manually. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The displayed window will contain information about the program that supports this type of file. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the UFO file with the PhotoImpact program.

Step 3. Update PhotoImpact to the latest version

If, despite the association of the PhotoImpact program with the Ulead Format Object file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the UFO file

If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. The most common file problems are:

The affected file may be 0 KB or smaller than expected. This suggests truncating the UFO file contents when downloading or copying. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The most common cause here is computer viruses. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our UFO file. However, remember that not every infected UFO file can be recovered, so it is important to take care of regular backups.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the UFO file. Help should be sought from the software developer, as they usually recommend using free file converters or installing an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for the failure. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Sometimes the program itself has options to repair the most popular UFO file corruption.
The program can also signal the fact of encryption. The encrypted file UFO except for the special designation, works normally, but only on the device where it was encrypted, before transferring it to another machine, decryption is required.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. Copying the UFO file to another location will fix the problem.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. In this case, the UFO file is blocked by the first application to open it. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the UFO file for a certain period of time. If the problem persists, restart the machine.
