Tips to open SAT file
Can't open the SAT file? You are not the only one. Thousands of users face similar problems every day. Below you will find tips on how to open SAT files as well as a list of programs that support SAT files.

The SAT file is supported on 7 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the SAT files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the SAT file on each system platform.
What is SAT file?
A .SAT file is a file that contains three-dimensional graphics. The format is developed by Spatial and the ACIS software. It is a transmission format that allows free flow of designs to other CAD programs. Graphics are saved as a text file in ASCII encoding. The file should not be edited manually. There is also a binary version of .SAB. It can also be opened by other software available on the market. This software, however, must contain a plug-in to handle these files.
How to open SAT file?
The most common problem when using ACIS SAT 3D Model Format is that a specific SAT is not associated with the program. Thus, when you open SAT, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. This can be quickly resolved by following the instructions below.
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the SAT file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install AutoCAD
In this case, you should first verify that the AutoCAD application is installed on the computer. To do this, enter the name AutoCAD into the system search engine. If we do not have this program, it is worth installing it, as it will help you automatically associate the file SAT with AutoCAD. Below is a list of programs that support the file SAT.

Remember to download programs supporting SAT files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of AutoCAD with SAT files
If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the SAT file still does not use the AutoCAD program, it means no association. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. However, it is important to check the "Always use the selected program ..." box, this will allow you to permanently associate the SAT file with the AutoCAD application.
Step 3. Update AutoCAD to the latest version
If, despite the association of the AutoCAD program with the ACIS SAT 3D Model Format file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the Autodesk, Inc. website and install the latest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the SAT file
The problem may also be with the file itself if the above steps don't work. File problems can be divided into the following:
The SAT file may be unusually small compared to the original file. This suggests truncating the SAT file contents when downloading or copying. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file SAT or the program directory. However, remember that not every infected SAT file can be recovered, so it is important to take care of regular backups.
Older version of SAT file may not always be supported by the latest software version. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
The file may be corrupted in a number of ways. Depending on the type of file, it is necessary to repair it accordingly. Some programs offer the ability to automatically repair SAT file corruption. The easiest way to restore the file is from a backup or by contacting Spatial, but this one can be expensive. Not all damage can be reversed.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted file SAT except for the special designation, works normally, but only on the device where it was encrypted, before transferring it to another machine, decryption is required.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. While there is usually no problem reading such a file, it may not be possible to save it. Copying the SAT file to another location will fix the problem.
This problem usually affects more complex files. Some file types can only be opened in one program at a time. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the SAT file again. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the SAT file for a certain period of time. If this does not work either, restart the device.
