Tips to open RIX file
Can't open the RIX file? You are not the only one. Thousands of users face similar problems every day. Below you will find tips on how to open RIX files as well as a list of programs that support RIX files.
RIX file extension
The RIX file is supported on 3 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the RIX files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the RIX file on each system platform.
What is RIX file?
The file with the extension RIX is the Raster Image Files file type. It was designed by RIX Softworks. Additionally, the Raster Image Files category contains 522 of other files. ColoRIX Image is most often found on 3 operating systems. Although it can be found with greater or lesser success on any operating system, it will only be useful on Linux, Mac OS, Windows. The XnView application is recommended to open the file. It was released by Pierre-Emmanuel Gougelet. Alternatively, you can use 2 other programs.
How to open RIX file?
The main problem with ColoRIX Image is that the RIX file is incorrectly associated with programs. This causes the file RIX to open by system applications not designed for this purpose, or to display a message that there is no associated program. This problem can be easily remedied.
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the RIX file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install XnView
The first step is to check if the computer has the XnView program installed. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name XnView in it. If it is not, installation may solve the problem, as most applications create file associations during installation. Below is a list of programs that support the file RIX.
Programs to open RIX file
Remember to download programs supporting RIX files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of XnView with RIX files
If, despite the installed application, the RIX file does not start in the XnView application, you must create a file association. This option is available from the level of Properties of a specific file available in the context menu. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Changes can be made using the "Change" button. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the RIX file with the XnView program.
Step 3. Update XnView to the latest version
If, despite the association of the XnView program with the ColoRIX Image file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version. Some applications allow you to update from the program level, and for others you need to download the installer from the Pierre-Emmanuel Gougelet page and install.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the RIX file
If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. This could be due to the file itself, the cleanest issues are:
The RIX file may be unusually small compared to the original file. This suggests truncating the RIX file contents when downloading or copying. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. The scan should cover the entire computer, not only the RIX file that we want to open. Sometimes virus-infected RIX files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
Older version of RIX file may not always be supported by the latest software version. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for the failure. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the ability to automatically repair RIX file corruption. The easiest way is to restore the file from a backup, if there is one, or contact RIX Softworks
When reading, a message appears that the file was encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted RIX files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. Copying the RIX file to another location will fix the problem.
This problem usually affects more complex files. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Closing other programs should help. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If the problem persists, restart the machine.
