The QFX file is supported on 3 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the QFX files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the QFX file on each system platform.
What is QFX file?
The .QFX file is a transmission file. It is a file containing financial data. It is generated by various types of financial institutions to be imported into financial management programs. In the case of .QFX, this is the Intuit Quicken author file. Files can be sent conventionally or directly using the Quicken application. The .QFX file can also be used by other applications in this segment. The format itself is equivalent to an .OFX file.
How to open QFX file?
The most common problem when using Quicken Financial Exchange Format is that a specific QFX is not associated with the program. Thus, when you open QFX, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. This problem can be easily remedied.
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the QFX file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install GnuCash
In this case, you should first verify that the GnuCash application is installed on the computer. To do this, enter the name GnuCash into the system search engine. If it is not, installation may solve the problem, as most applications create file associations during installation. Below is a list of programs that support the file QFX.
Programs to open QFX file
Remember to download programs supporting QFX files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of GnuCash with QFX files
If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the QFX file still does not use the GnuCash program, it means no association. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the QFX file with the GnuCash program.
Step 3. Update GnuCash to the latest version
If, despite the association of the GnuCash program with the Quicken Financial Exchange Format file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version. In this case, use the The GNU Cash project website or update the program from the application.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the QFX file
The problem may also be with the file itself if the above steps don't work. File problems can be divided into the following:
The affected file may be 0 KB or smaller than expected. Usually this applies to QFX files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. If this is not possible, you can use the online scanner. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file QFX or the program directory. As a result of the scan, sometimes it is not possible to recover QFX files, which are deleted if there is a backup of this file, then after restoring it, it must also be scanned.
Older version of QFX file may not always be supported by the latest software version. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged QFX files. The easiest way to restore the file is from a backup or by contacting Intuit, but this one can be expensive. Not all damage can be reversed.
When reading, a message appears that the file was encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted QFX files can be used by the device on which they were encrypted, on any other device it is required to have the appropriate cryptographic key and decrypt the file before its recovery.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. It is best to move QFX to a different directory.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Just close unnecessary programs. Sometimes you have to wait for the session to the file QFX to close. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the QFX file for a certain period of time. If this does not work either, restart the device.
