What is PY file?

The .PY file is a text format file. It is a script written in Python syntax. The file can be edited in any text editor as long as the syntax is maintained, however, running the file as executable requires an interpreter. Python is used by administrators and in internet technologies. Python syntax is clear and readable. It supports object oriented programming and is in principle a free solution, although there are paid extensions of this technology.

How to open PY file?

The main problem with Python Script is that the PY file is incorrectly associated with programs. Thus, when you open PY, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. This can be quickly resolved by following the instructions below.

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the PY file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install Foundation Python

An often overlooked issue is to make sure that Foundation Python is installed on the computer. To do this, enter the name Foundation Python into the system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below is a list of programs that support the file PY.

Step 2. Create association of Foundation Python with PY files

If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the PY file still does not use the Foundation Python program, it means no association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the PY file with the Foundation Python program.

Step 3. Update Foundation Python to the latest version

The fault may also lie with the Foundation Python program, it is possible that Python Script requires a newer version of the program.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the PY file

The problem may also be with the file itself if the above steps don't work. The most common file problems are:

The affected file may be 0 KB or smaller than expected. This suggests truncating the PY file contents when downloading or copying. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our PY file. Sometimes virus-infected PY files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the PY file. Help should be sought from the software developer, as they usually recommend using free file converters or installing an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged PY files.
When reading, a message appears that the file was encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted PY files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
Some of the system directories are excluded from modification. While there is usually no problem reading such a file, it may not be possible to save it. If possible, you can try to move the PY file to another location.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. Some file types can only be opened in one program at a time. Just close unnecessary programs. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the PY file again. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If nothing helps, please reset the device.
