The PSD file is supported on 4 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the PSD files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the PSD file on each system platform.
What is PSD file?
The .PSD file is an Adobe Photoshop document. It is also a raster graphics format. Although in most cases the result of a graphic's work is a file in a different format, e.g. .JPG or .PNG, during the work the project is saved as a .PSD file. This allows you to maintain information about the layers, their settings and purpose. It is also the only format that allows you to take advantage of all the benefits of Adobe Photoshop. Sample .PSD files can be obtained on portals devoted to the program.
How to open PSD file?
The most common problem when using Adobe Photoshop Document is that a specific PSD is not associated with the program. This causes the file PSD to open by system applications not designed for this purpose, or to display a message that there is no associated program. How to solve such a problem?
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the PSD file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install Adobe Photoshop
The first step is to check if the computer has the Adobe Photoshop program installed. To do this, enter the name Adobe Photoshop into the system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below you will find a list of applications that support PSD files.

Remember to download programs supporting PSD files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of Adobe Photoshop with PSD files
If, despite the installed application, the PSD file does not start in the Adobe Photoshop application, you must create a file association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the PSD file with the Adobe Photoshop program.
Step 3. Update Adobe Photoshop to the latest version
The fault may also lie with the Adobe Photoshop program, it is possible that Adobe Photoshop Document requires a newer version of the program. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website and install the latest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the PSD file
Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. The most common file problems are:
The affected file may be 0 KB or smaller than expected. Usually this applies to PSD files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our PSD file. Sometimes virus-infected PSD files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
Older version of PSD file may not always be supported by the latest software version. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
The file may be corrupted in a number of ways. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Some programs offer the ability to automatically repair PSD file corruption. You can restore the file from a backup or use Adobe Systems help.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted file PSD except for the special designation, works normally, but only on the device where it was encrypted, before transferring it to another machine, decryption is required.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. It is best to move PSD to a different directory.
This problem only occurs with more complex files. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Just close unnecessary programs. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. However, some background programs may block the PSD file while scanning. If nothing helps, please reset the device.
