Tips to open PRT file
Can't open the PRT file? You are not the only one. Thousands of users face similar problems every day. Below you will find tips on how to open PRT files as well as a list of programs that support PRT files.

The PRT file is supported on 1 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the PRT files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the PRT file on each system platform.
What is PRT file?
A .PRT file is a 3D graphics design file. It is used in various CAD programs. Usually it concerns a component that is part of a larger solution. This allows the project to be divided into elements that can be performed independently and by different teams. Only after all parts are ready, the final version of the solution can be generated. The .PRT file does not have to refer to a standalone component, it can only contain some functionality.
How to open PRT file?
An often recurring problem with CAD 3D Part Or Component Format is that PRT is not associated with the correct program file. This causes the file PRT to open by system applications not designed for this purpose, or to display a message that there is no associated program. This can be quickly resolved by following the instructions below.
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the PRT file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install CADKEY
The first step is to check if the computer has the CADKEY program installed. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name CADKEY in it. If we do not have this program, it is worth installing it, as it will help you automatically associate the file PRT with CADKEY. Later in this article you will find a list of programs that can open PRT files.
Programs to open PRT file
Remember to download programs supporting PRT files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of CADKEY with PRT files
However, it may happen that the application itself does not cause the PRT file to open in the CADKEY application, but you can set it manually. This option is available from the level of Properties of a specific file available in the context menu. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. However, it is important to check the "Always use the selected program ..." box, this will allow you to permanently associate the PRT file with the CADKEY application.
Step 3. Update CADKEY to the latest version
If, however, after binding CADKEY with CAD 3D Part Or Component Format there were still problems, you should update the program to the latest version. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the Kubotek USA Inc. website and install the latest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the PRT file
Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. This could be due to the file itself, the cleanest issues are:
Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. This suggests truncating the PRT file contents when downloading or copying. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file PRT or the program directory. As a result of the scan, sometimes it is not possible to recover PRT files, which are deleted if there is a backup of this file, then after restoring it, it must also be scanned.
This can happen especially when the program is dynamically developed and the structure of the PRT files changes over time. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for the failure. Depending on the type of file, it is necessary to repair it accordingly. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged PRT files. The easiest way to restore the file is from a backup or by contacting N/A, but this one can be expensive. Not all damage can be reversed.
The program can also signal the fact of encryption. The encrypted PRT files can be used by the device on which they were encrypted, on any other device it is required to have the appropriate cryptographic key and decrypt the file before its recovery.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. Copying the PRT file to another location will fix the problem.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. In this case, the PRT file is blocked by the first application to open it. Just close unnecessary programs. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the PRT file again. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If nothing helps, please reset the device.
