The PPT file is supported on 4 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the PPT files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the PPT file on each system platform.
What is PPT file?
The .PPT file is a multimedia presentation. It is the format used by Microsoft Office PowerPoint. However, other software of this type may also work on this kind of file. In this case, there may be slight compatibility problems with the solutions. Currently (from the 2007 version of the Office suite) PowerPoint uses the improved .PPTX format, but this did not decrease the popularity of the previous solution. The presentation divides the material into slides and allows you to animate the material in simple steps.
How to open PPT file?
The main problem with PowerPoint Presentation is that the PPT file is incorrectly associated with programs. Thus, when you open PPT, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. How to solve such a problem?
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the PPT file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install PowerPoint
An often overlooked issue is to make sure that PowerPoint is installed on the computer. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name PowerPoint in it. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below you will find a list of applications that support PPT files.

Remember to download programs supporting PPT files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of PowerPoint with PPT files
If, despite the installed application, the PPT file does not start in the PowerPoint application, you must create a file association. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. However, it is important to check the "Always use the selected program ..." box, this will allow you to permanently associate the PPT file with the PowerPoint application.
Step 3. Update PowerPoint to the latest version
The fault may also lie with the PowerPoint program, it is possible that PowerPoint Presentation requires a newer version of the program. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the Microsoft Corporation website and install the latest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the PPT file
The problem may also be with the file itself if the above steps don't work. File problems can be divided into the following:
Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. Usually this applies to PPT files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our PPT file. Sometimes virus-infected PPT files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
Older version of PPT file may not always be supported by the latest software version. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
There can be many reasons for the failure. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Sometimes the program itself has options to repair the most popular PPT file corruption. The easiest way is to restore the file from a backup, if there is one, or contact Microsoft
When reading, a message appears that the file was encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted file PPT except for the special designation, works normally, but only on the device where it was encrypted, before transferring it to another machine, decryption is required.
Some of the system directories are excluded from modification. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. It is best to move PPT to a different directory.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Closing other programs should help. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the PPT file for a certain period of time. If this does not work either, restart the device.
