Step 2. Create association of Miranda IM with POPUPSKIN files
If, despite the installed application, the POPUPSKIN file does not start in the Miranda IM application, you must create a file association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The displayed window will contain information about the program that supports this type of file. Changes can be made using the "Change" button. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. The "always use the selected program ..." field will set the Miranda IM application as the default for handling the POPUPSKIN file.
Step 3. Update Miranda IM to the latest version
If, however, after binding Miranda IM with Miranda Pop-up Skin Settings there were still problems, you should update the program to the latest version. Some applications allow you to update from the program level, and for others you need to download the installer from the Miranda IM Project page and install.
If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. File problems can be divided into the following:
The affected file may be 0 KB or smaller than expected. Usually this applies to POPUPSKIN files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. If this is not possible, you can use the online scanner. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our POPUPSKIN file. As a result of the scan, sometimes it is not possible to recover POPUPSKIN files, which are deleted if there is a backup of this file, then after restoring it, it must also be scanned.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the POPUPSKIN file. Help should be sought from the software developer, as they usually recommend using free file converters or installing an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged POPUPSKIN files. The easiest way is to restore the file from a backup, if there is one, or contact Miranda IM Project
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted POPUPSKIN files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. It is best to move POPUPSKIN to a different directory.
This problem usually affects more complex files. Some file types can only be opened in one program at a time. Closing other programs should help. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the POPUPSKIN file again. However, some background programs may block the POPUPSKIN file while scanning. If this does not work either, restart the device.
