Tips to open PNT file
Can't open the PNT file? You are not the only one. Thousands of users face similar problems every day. Below you will find tips on how to open PNT files as well as a list of programs that support PNT files.
PNT file extension
The PNT file is supported on 2 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the PNT files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the PNT file on each system platform.
What is PNT file?
The file in the PNT format belongs to the Raster Image Files category. The author of this format is Apple. Raster Image Files consists of 522 similar files. MacPaint Format appears on 2 operating systems as a functional file. The file will work on Mac OS, Windows systems, unfortunately not on others. Alternatively, you can use 3 other programs. You can use CorelDRAW, XnView, MacPaint in case GraphicConverter cannot be used.
How to open PNT file?
The most common problem when using MacPaint Format is that a specific PNT is not associated with the program. This is manifested by the fact that PNT files open in unusual applications or do not have an assigned program. This can be quickly resolved by following the instructions below.
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the PNT file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install GraphicConverter
An often overlooked issue is to make sure that GraphicConverter is installed on the computer. This can be achieved by typing GraphicConverter into the operating system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Later in this article you will find a list of programs that can open PNT files.

Remember to download programs supporting PNT files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of GraphicConverter with PNT files
If, despite the installed application, the PNT file does not start in the GraphicConverter application, you must create a file association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. However, it is important to check the "Always use the selected program ..." box, this will allow you to permanently associate the PNT file with the GraphicConverter application.
Step 3. Update GraphicConverter to the latest version
If, however, after binding GraphicConverter with MacPaint Format there were still problems, you should update the program to the latest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the PNT file
The problem may also be with the file itself if the above steps don't work. The most common file problems are:
The PNT file may be unusually small compared to the original file. Usually this applies to PNT files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our PNT file. Sometimes virus-infected PNT files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
Older version of PNT file may not always be supported by the latest software version. Help should be sought from the software developer, as they usually recommend using free file converters or installing an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for the failure. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Sometimes the program itself has options to repair the most popular PNT file corruption.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted PNT files can be used by the device on which they were encrypted, on any other device it is required to have the appropriate cryptographic key and decrypt the file before its recovery.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. While there is usually no problem reading such a file, it may not be possible to save it. If possible, you can try to move the PNT file to another location.
This problem usually affects more complex files. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the PNT file for a certain period of time. If nothing helps, please reset the device.
