What is PNM file?

How to open PNM file?
An often recurring problem with Portable Any Map Image is that PNM is not associated with the correct program file. Thus, when you open PNM, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. How to solve such a problem?
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the PNM file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install ToyViewer
The first step is to check if the computer has the ToyViewer program installed. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name ToyViewer in it. If it is not, installation may solve the problem, as most applications create file associations during installation. Below you will find a list of applications that support PNM files.

Step 2. Create association of ToyViewer with PNM files
If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the PNM file still does not use the ToyViewer program, it means no association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the PNM file with the ToyViewer program.
Step 3. Update ToyViewer to the latest version
The fault may also lie with the ToyViewer program, it is possible that Portable Any Map Image requires a newer version of the program.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the PNM file
If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. The most common file problems are:
Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. This is most often caused by a problem while downloading the PNM file. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The most common cause here is computer viruses. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file PNM or the program directory. Sometimes virus-infected PNM files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
Older version of PNM file may not always be supported by the latest software version. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
