Tips to open PLX file
Can't open the PLX file? You are not the only one. Thousands of users face similar problems every day. Below you will find tips on how to open PLX files as well as a list of programs that support PLX files.
PLX file extension
The PLX file is supported on 3 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the PLX files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the PLX file on each system platform.
What is PLX file?
The file with the extension PLX is the Executable Files file type. In addition to this file, the Executable Files category includes 140 related files. Perl Executable Format is most often found on 3 operating systems. The file will work on Linux, Mac OS, Windows systems, unfortunately not on others. There are also 3 alternative programs to handle the PLX file. The Microsoft IIS, Perl Data Language programs will also handle the file when the ActivePerl program does not fulfill its role.
How to open PLX file?
The most common problem when using Perl Executable Format is that a specific PLX is not associated with the program. Thus, when you open PLX, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. How to solve such a problem?
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the PLX file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install ActivePerl
An often overlooked issue is to make sure that ActivePerl is installed on the computer. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name ActivePerl in it. If it is not, installation may solve the problem, as most applications create file associations during installation. Below you will find a list of applications that support PLX files.

Remember to download programs supporting PLX files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of ActivePerl with PLX files
If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the PLX file still does not use the ActivePerl program, it means no association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. However, it is important to check the "Always use the selected program ..." box, this will allow you to permanently associate the PLX file with the ActivePerl application.
Step 3. Update ActivePerl to the latest version
If, despite the association of the ActivePerl program with the Perl Executable Format file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the PLX file
If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. This could be due to the file itself, the cleanest issues are:
Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. Usually this applies to PLX files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our PLX file. Sometimes virus-infected PLX files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
This can happen especially when the program is dynamically developed and the structure of the PLX files changes over time. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for the failure. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Sometimes the program itself has options to repair the most popular PLX file corruption.
The program can also signal the fact of encryption. The encrypted PLX files can be used by the device on which they were encrypted, on any other device it is required to have the appropriate cryptographic key and decrypt the file before its recovery.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. Copying the PLX file to another location will fix the problem.
This problem only occurs with more complex files. Some file types can only be opened in one program at a time. Closing other programs should help. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the PLX file again. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If this does not work either, restart the device.
