Step 2. Create association of IBM Forms with PEL files
If, despite the installed application, the PEL file does not start in the IBM Forms application, you must create a file association. If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. File problems can be divided into the following:
The PEL file may be unusually small compared to the original file. This is most often caused by a problem while downloading the PEL file. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file PEL or the program directory. Sometimes virus-infected PEL files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the PEL file. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged PEL files. You can restore the file from a backup or use IBM help.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted PEL files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. If possible, you can try to move the PEL file to another location.
