What is PEL file?

The file with the extension PEL is the Misc Files file type. It was designed by IBM. Additionally, the Misc Files category contains 6033 of other files. IBM Forms Log appears on 1 operating systems as a functional file. Although it can be found with greater or lesser success on any operating system, it will only be useful on Windows. The IBM Forms application is recommended to open the file. It was released by IBM.

How to open PEL file?

The main problem with IBM Forms Log is that the PEL file is incorrectly associated with programs. This is manifested by the fact that PEL files open in unusual applications or do not have an assigned program. This problem can be easily remedied.

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the PEL file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install IBM Forms

An often overlooked issue is to make sure that IBM Forms is installed on the computer. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name IBM Forms in it. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below is a list of programs that support the file PEL.

Programs to open PEL file

Remember to download programs supporting PEL files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.

Step 2. Create association of IBM Forms with PEL files

If, despite the installed application, the PEL file does not start in the IBM Forms application, you must create a file association. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Changes can be made using the "Change" button. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. However, it is important to check the "Always use the selected program ..." box, this will allow you to permanently associate the PEL file with the IBM Forms application.

Step 3. Update IBM Forms to the latest version

If, however, after binding IBM Forms with IBM Forms Log there were still problems, you should update the program to the latest version. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the IBM website and install the latest version.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the PEL file

If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. File problems can be divided into the following:

The PEL file may be unusually small compared to the original file. This is most often caused by a problem while downloading the PEL file. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file PEL or the program directory. Sometimes virus-infected PEL files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the PEL file. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged PEL files. You can restore the file from a backup or use IBM help.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted PEL files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. If possible, you can try to move the PEL file to another location.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. Some file types can only be opened in one program at a time. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the PEL file again. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If the problem persists, restart the machine.
