Tips to open PAT file
Can't open the PAT file? You are not the only one. Thousands of users face similar problems every day. Below you will find tips on how to open PAT files as well as a list of programs that support PAT files.
PAT file extension
The PAT file is supported on 3 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the PAT files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the PAT file on each system platform.
What is PAT file?
The .PAT file is an image file. It contains a bitmap that serves as a pattern for generating a fill. It is usually small and square-shaped. Sizes larger than 256x256 pixels are not used for practical reasons. The standard was designed by Adobe, but the files can also be used in other graphics applications (including vector graphics). The pattern is replicated to fill the entire given space without the stretching effect.
How to open PAT file?
An often recurring problem with Pattern Format is that PAT is not associated with the correct program file. Thus, when you open PAT, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. This can be quickly resolved by following the instructions below.
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the PAT file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install Adobe Photoshop
In this case, you should first verify that the Adobe Photoshop application is installed on the computer. This can be achieved by typing Adobe Photoshop into the operating system search engine. If it is not, installation may solve the problem, as most applications create file associations during installation. Below you will find a list of applications that support PAT files.

Remember to download programs supporting PAT files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of Adobe Photoshop with PAT files
If, despite the installed application, the PAT file does not start in the Adobe Photoshop application, you must create a file association. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. The displayed window will contain information about the program that supports this type of file. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. The "always use the selected program ..." field will set the Adobe Photoshop application as the default for handling the PAT file.
Step 3. Update Adobe Photoshop to the latest version
The fault may also lie with the Adobe Photoshop program, it is possible that Pattern Format requires a newer version of the program. In this case, use the Adobe Systems Incorporated website or update the program from the application.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the PAT file
If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. File problems can be divided into the following:
The PAT file may be unusually small compared to the original file. This is most often caused by a problem while downloading the PAT file. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file PAT or the program directory. Sometimes virus-infected PAT files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
Older version of PAT file may not always be supported by the latest software version. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for the failure. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Sometimes the program itself has options to repair the most popular PAT file corruption. You can restore the file from a backup or use N/A help.
When reading, a message appears that the file was encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted file PAT except for the special designation, works normally, but only on the device where it was encrypted, before transferring it to another machine, decryption is required.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. If possible, you can try to move the PAT file to another location.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. In this case, the PAT file is blocked by the first application to open it. Just close unnecessary programs. Sometimes you have to wait for the session to the file PAT to close. However, some background programs may block the PAT file while scanning. If this does not work either, restart the device.
