The NWD file is supported on 1 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the NWD files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the NWD file on each system platform.
What is NWD file?
The file in the NWD format belongs to the CAD Files category. The creator of this file is Autodesk. CAD Files consists of 158 similar files. Navisworks Document is most often found on 1 operating systems. Although it can be found with greater or lesser success on any operating system, it will only be useful on Windows. The main program that supports this format is Navisworks. This was created by Autodesk, Inc.. Alternatively, you can use 2 other programs. JetStream Roamer, ProjectDox will apply when it is not possible to use Navisworks.
How to open NWD file?
An often recurring problem with Navisworks Document is that NWD is not associated with the correct program file. Thus, when you open NWD, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. This problem can be easily remedied.
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the NWD file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install Navisworks
The first step is to check if the computer has the Navisworks program installed. To do this, enter the name Navisworks into the system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below is a list of programs that support the file NWD.

Remember to download programs supporting NWD files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of Navisworks with NWD files
However, it may happen that the application itself does not cause the NWD file to open in the Navisworks application, but you can set it manually. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. The displayed window will contain information about the program that supports this type of file. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the NWD file with the Navisworks program.
Step 3. Update Navisworks to the latest version
If, despite the association of the Navisworks program with the Navisworks Document file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the Autodesk, Inc. website and install the latest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the NWD file
If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. This could be due to the file itself, the cleanest issues are:
Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. This suggests truncating the NWD file contents when downloading or copying. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our NWD file. However, remember that not every infected NWD file can be recovered, so it is important to take care of regular backups.
Older version of NWD file may not always be supported by the latest software version. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
There can be many reasons for this. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged NWD files. The easiest way is to restore the file from a backup, if there is one, or contact Autodesk
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted file NWD except for the special designation, works normally, but only on the device where it was encrypted, before transferring it to another machine, decryption is required.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. If possible, you can try to move the NWD file to another location.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. In this case, the NWD file is blocked by the first application to open it. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the NWD file for a certain period of time. If this does not work either, restart the device.
