The NSF file is supported on 1 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the NSF files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the NSF file on each system platform.
What is NSF file?
The file in the NSF format belongs to the Database Files category. The author of this format is IBM. Database Files consists of 403 similar files. Lotus Notes Database is supported by 1 operating systems. The file will work on Windows systems, unfortunately not on others. Alternatively, you can use 1 other programs. Lotus Notes Recovery will apply when it is not possible to use Lotus Notes.
How to open NSF file?
The most common problem when using Lotus Notes Database is that a specific NSF is not associated with the program. This causes the file NSF to open by system applications not designed for this purpose, or to display a message that there is no associated program. How to solve such a problem?
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the NSF file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install Lotus Notes
In this case, you should first verify that the Lotus Notes application is installed on the computer. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name Lotus Notes in it. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Later in this article you will find a list of programs that can open NSF files.

Remember to download programs supporting NSF files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of Lotus Notes with NSF files
If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the NSF file still does not use the Lotus Notes program, it means no association. This option is available from the level of Properties of a specific file available in the context menu. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. The "always use the selected program ..." field will set the Lotus Notes application as the default for handling the NSF file.
Step 3. Update Lotus Notes to the latest version
If, however, after binding Lotus Notes with Lotus Notes Database there were still problems, you should update the program to the latest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the NSF file
Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. This could be due to the file itself, the cleanest issues are:
The NSF file may be unusually small compared to the original file. This suggests truncating the NSF file contents when downloading or copying. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. If this is not possible, you can use the online scanner. The scan should cover the entire computer, not only the NSF file that we want to open. Sometimes virus-infected NSF files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
This can happen especially when the program is dynamically developed and the structure of the NSF files changes over time. Help should be sought from the software developer, as they usually recommend using free file converters or installing an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. Depending on the type of file, it is necessary to repair it accordingly. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged NSF files.
The program can also signal the fact of encryption. The encrypted NSF files can be used by the device on which they were encrypted, on any other device it is required to have the appropriate cryptographic key and decrypt the file before its recovery.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. Copying the NSF file to another location will fix the problem.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Just close unnecessary programs. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. However, some background programs may block the NSF file while scanning. If this does not work either, restart the device.
