The NFO file is supported on 4 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the NFO files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the NFO file on each system platform.
What is NFO file?
The .NFO file is a text file. It is a file directly related to software or game piracy. The file contains information about the pirated resource. These can be more general data, a description of files, a method of preparation for launch. The main assumption is that the .NFO file also contains information about the group that shared the resource or broke security. As Microsoft also uses .NFO files, for another purpose they are associated with the application for displaying data about the system.
How to open NFO file?
The most common problem when using Warez Information Format is that a specific NFO is not associated with the program. This is manifested by the fact that NFO files open in unusual applications or do not have an assigned program. This problem can be easily remedied.
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the NFO file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install TextMate
The first step is to check if the computer has the TextMate program installed. This can be achieved by typing TextMate into the operating system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below is a list of programs that support the file NFO.

Remember to download programs supporting NFO files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of TextMate with NFO files
If, despite the installed application, the NFO file does not start in the TextMate application, you must create a file association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The displayed window will contain information about the program that supports this type of file. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. The "always use the selected program ..." field will set the TextMate application as the default for handling the NFO file.
Step 3. Update TextMate to the latest version
If, despite the association of the TextMate program with the Warez Information Format file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the MacroMates Ltd. website and install the latest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the NFO file
Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. This could be due to the file itself, the cleanest issues are:
Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. Usually this applies to NFO files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The most common cause here is computer viruses. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our NFO file. As a result of the scan, sometimes it is not possible to recover NFO files, which are deleted if there is a backup of this file, then after restoring it, it must also be scanned.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the NFO file. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for the failure. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged NFO files. You can restore the file from a backup or use THG help.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted NFO files can be used by the device on which they were encrypted, on any other device it is required to have the appropriate cryptographic key and decrypt the file before its recovery.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. Copying the NFO file to another location will fix the problem.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Closing other programs should help. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If the problem persists, restart the machine.
