Step 2. Create association of JDownloader with METALINK files

However, it may happen that the application itself does not cause the METALINK file to open in the JDownloader application, but you can set it manually. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. The program should be visible in the window, otherwise it should be selected manually using the "Browse" button and the program installation directory should be indicated. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the METALINK file with the JDownloader program.

Step 3. Update JDownloader to the latest version

The fault may also lie with the JDownloader program, it is possible that Metalink 3.0 requires a newer version of the program. In this case, use the Jdownloader Team website or update the program from the application.

Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. This could be due to the file itself, the cleanest issues are:

Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. This suggests truncating the METALINK file contents when downloading or copying. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file METALINK or the program directory. However, remember that not every infected METALINK file can be recovered, so it is important to take care of regular backups.
