Can't open the JS file? You are not the only one. Thousands of users face similar problems every day. Below you will find tips on how to open JS files as well as a list of programs that support JS files.

The JS file is supported on 3 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the JS files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the JS file on each system platform.
What is JS file?
A .JS file is a text file. It contains JavaScript code that is used by websites to perform more advanced tasks (e.g. validating the content of text fields or dynamic drop-down lists). Although JavaScript code can be embedded directly in a .HTML file, using a .JS file allows functions to be referenced from different pages, not just in the page where the code is written. In order for the file to be used by the page, it must be imported to it, then all functions in the indicated file are visible.
How to open JS file?
An often recurring problem with JavaScript Format is that JS is not associated with the correct program file. Thus, when you open JS, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. How to solve such a problem?
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the JS file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install Adobe Dreamweaver
The first step is to check if the computer has the Adobe Dreamweaver program installed. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name Adobe Dreamweaver in it. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Later in this article you will find a list of programs that can open JS files.
Programs to open JS file
Remember to download programs supporting JS files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of Adobe Dreamweaver with JS files
However, it may happen that the application itself does not cause the JS file to open in the Adobe Dreamweaver application, but you can set it manually. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Changes can be made using the "Change" button. The program should be visible in the window, otherwise it should be selected manually using the "Browse" button and the program installation directory should be indicated. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the JS file with the Adobe Dreamweaver program.
Step 3. Update Adobe Dreamweaver to the latest version
The fault may also lie with the Adobe Dreamweaver program, it is possible that JavaScript Format requires a newer version of the program. In this case, use the Adobe Systems Incorporated website or update the program from the application.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the JS file
If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. The most common file problems are:
The JS file may be unusually small compared to the original file. This suggests truncating the JS file contents when downloading or copying. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. If this is not possible, you can use the online scanner. The scan should cover the entire computer, not only the JS file that we want to open. Sometimes virus-infected JS files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
Older version of JS file may not always be supported by the latest software version. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
The file may be corrupted in a number of ways. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Sometimes the program itself has options to repair the most popular JS file corruption. The easiest way is to restore the file from a backup, if there is one, or contact N/A
The program can also signal the fact of encryption. The encrypted JS files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. If possible, you can try to move the JS file to another location.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. Some file types can only be opened in one program at a time. Just close unnecessary programs. Sometimes you have to wait for the session to the file JS to close. However, some background programs may block the JS file while scanning. If the problem persists, restart the machine.
