What is G3D file?

The file with the extension G3D is the CAD Files file type. The author of this format is GOM. In addition to this file, the CAD Files category includes 158 related files. GOM 3D Format is supported by 1 operating systems. The file will work on Windows systems, unfortunately not on others. The main program that supports this format is GOM Inspect. This was created by GOM. Alternatively, you can use 1 other programs. You can use CATIA in case GOM Inspect cannot be used.

How to open G3D file?

The main problem with GOM 3D Format is that the G3D file is incorrectly associated with programs. Thus, when you open G3D, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. How to solve such a problem?

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the G3D file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install GOM Inspect

In this case, you should first verify that the GOM Inspect application is installed on the computer. To do this, enter the name GOM Inspect into the system search engine. If we do not have this program, it is worth installing it, as it will help you automatically associate the file G3D with GOM Inspect. Below you will find a list of applications that support G3D files.

Programs to open G3D file

Remember to download programs supporting G3D files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.

Step 2. Create association of GOM Inspect with G3D files

However, it may happen that the application itself does not cause the G3D file to open in the GOM Inspect application, but you can set it manually. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. The displayed window will contain information about the program that supports this type of file. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the G3D file with the GOM Inspect program.

Step 3. Update GOM Inspect to the latest version

If, despite the association of the GOM Inspect program with the GOM 3D Format file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version. In this case, use the GOM website or update the program from the application.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the G3D file

If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. The most common file problems are:

Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. This suggests truncating the G3D file contents when downloading or copying. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. Perform a virus scan using available and up-to-date anti-virus software. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file G3D or the program directory. As a result of the scan, sometimes it is not possible to recover G3D files, which are deleted if there is a backup of this file, then after restoring it, it must also be scanned.
This can happen especially when the program is dynamically developed and the structure of the G3D files changes over time. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Some programs offer the ability to automatically repair G3D file corruption. The easiest way to restore the file is from a backup or by contacting GOM, but this one can be expensive. Not all damage can be reversed.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted file G3D except for the special designation, works normally, but only on the device where it was encrypted, before transferring it to another machine, decryption is required.
Some of the system directories are excluded from modification. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. It is best to move G3D to a different directory.
This problem only occurs with more complex files. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Closing other programs should help. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the G3D file again. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the G3D file for a certain period of time. If this does not work either, restart the device.
