Step 2. Create association of Microsoft FrontPage with FPLINKBAR files

If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the FPLINKBAR file still does not use the Microsoft FrontPage program, it means no association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Changes can be made using the "Change" button. The program should be visible in the window, otherwise it should be selected manually using the "Browse" button and the program installation directory should be indicated. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the FPLINKBAR file with the Microsoft FrontPage program.

Step 3. Update Microsoft FrontPage to the latest version

If, despite the association of the Microsoft FrontPage program with the Microsoft FrontPage Format file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version.

The problem may also be with the file itself if the above steps don't work. This could be due to the file itself, the cleanest issues are:

The FPLINKBAR file may be unusually small compared to the original file. Usually this applies to FPLINKBAR files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our FPLINKBAR file. Sometimes virus-infected FPLINKBAR files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the FPLINKBAR file. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
There can be many reasons for this. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the ability to automatically repair FPLINKBAR file corruption.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted FPLINKBAR files can be used by the device on which they were encrypted, on any other device it is required to have the appropriate cryptographic key and decrypt the file before its recovery.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. If possible, you can try to move the FPLINKBAR file to another location.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. Some file types can only be opened in one program at a time. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the FPLINKBAR file again. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the FPLINKBAR file for a certain period of time. If this does not work either, restart the device.
