What is E00 file?

The file with the extension E00 is the GIS Files file type. It was designed by ESRI. Additionally, the GIS Files category contains 255 of other files. ESRI Map Format Export appears on 1 operating systems as a functional file. These systems consist of Windows, although it may occasionally be found on another system, it will be non-functional. It is recommended to use ArcGIS Desktop to handle this file. This is a program created by Esri. Alternatively, you can use 4 other programs. You can use Voxler, FME Desktop, Total GIS Converter in case ArcGIS Desktop cannot be used.

How to open E00 file?

The main problem with ESRI Map Format Export is that the E00 file is incorrectly associated with programs. This causes the file E00 to open by system applications not designed for this purpose, or to display a message that there is no associated program. How to solve such a problem?

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the E00 file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install ArcGIS Desktop

An often overlooked issue is to make sure that ArcGIS Desktop is installed on the computer. To do this, enter the name ArcGIS Desktop into the system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below is a list of programs that support the file E00.

Step 2. Create association of ArcGIS Desktop with E00 files

If, despite the installed application, the E00 file does not start in the ArcGIS Desktop application, you must create a file association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the E00 file with the ArcGIS Desktop program.

Step 3. Update ArcGIS Desktop to the latest version

The fault may also lie with the ArcGIS Desktop program, it is possible that ESRI Map Format Export requires a newer version of the program. In this case, use the Esri website or update the program from the application.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the E00 file

If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. This could be due to the file itself, the cleanest issues are:

The E00 file may be unusually small compared to the original file. Usually this applies to E00 files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. If this is not possible, you can use the online scanner. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our E00 file. However, remember that not every infected E00 file can be recovered, so it is important to take care of regular backups.
Older version of E00 file may not always be supported by the latest software version. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
There can be many reasons for this. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged E00 files. You can restore the file from a backup or use ESRI help.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted E00 files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. Copying the E00 file to another location will fix the problem.
This problem only occurs with more complex files. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Closing other programs should help. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the E00 file for a certain period of time. If the problem persists, restart the machine.
