Tips to open DWF file
Can't open the DWF file? You are not the only one. Thousands of users face similar problems every day. Below you will find tips on how to open DWF files as well as a list of programs that support DWF files.

The DWF file is supported on 4 operating systems. Depending on your operating system, you may need different software to handle the DWF files. Below is a summary of the number of programs that support and open the DWF file on each system platform.
What is DWF file?
A .DWF file is a drawing saved in Design Web Format. It allows you to save three-dimensional graphics. The format was designed by Autodesk, but it is not an exclusive format for that manufacturer. It was created to ensure greater compatibility between CAD solutions from different manufacturers. Most of the software available on the market (including the free ones) reads the contents of .DWF files. Additionally, the project implements ZIP compression, which allows you to reduce the design file.
How to open DWF file?
The main problem with Design Web Format is that the DWF file is incorrectly associated with programs. Thus, when you open DWF, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. This can be quickly resolved by following the instructions below.
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the DWF file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install TurboCAD
The first step is to check if the computer has the TurboCAD program installed. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name TurboCAD in it. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Later in this article you will find a list of programs that can open DWF files.
Programs to open DWF file
Remember to download programs supporting DWF files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of TurboCAD with DWF files
If, despite the installed application, the DWF file does not start in the TurboCAD application, you must create a file association. This option is available from the level of Properties of a specific file available in the context menu. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. The "always use the selected program ..." field will set the TurboCAD application as the default for handling the DWF file.
Step 3. Update TurboCAD to the latest version
If, however, after binding TurboCAD with Design Web Format there were still problems, you should update the program to the latest version. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the IMSI/Design, LLC. website and install the latest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the DWF file
The problem may also be with the file itself if the above steps don't work. The most common file problems are:
The affected file may be 0 KB or smaller than expected. This is most often caused by a problem while downloading the DWF file. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A quick virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should clear up any doubts. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our DWF file. As a result of the scan, sometimes it is not possible to recover DWF files, which are deleted if there is a backup of this file, then after restoring it, it must also be scanned.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the DWF file. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
The file may be corrupted in a number of ways. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the ability to automatically repair DWF file corruption. You can restore the file from a backup or use Autodesk help.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted DWF files can be used by the device on which they were encrypted, on any other device it is required to have the appropriate cryptographic key and decrypt the file before its recovery.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. It is best to move DWF to a different directory.
This problem only occurs with more complex files. Some file types can only be opened in one program at a time. Just close unnecessary programs. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. Some anti-virus or backup software may occupy the DWF file for a certain period of time. If this does not work either, restart the device.
