What is DT0 file?

The file in the DT0 format belongs to the GIS Files category. The author of this format is National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. GIS Files consists of 255 similar files. DTED Level 0 Format is most often found on 2 operating systems. These systems consist of Linux, Windows, although it may occasionally be found on another system, it will be non-functional. The FME Desktop application is recommended to open the file. It was released by Safe Software Inc.. There are also 4 alternative programs to handle the DT0 file. The ArcGIS Desktop, Global Mapper, MapInfo programs will also handle the file when the FME Desktop program does not fulfill its role.

How to open DT0 file?

An often recurring problem with DTED Level 0 Format is that DT0 is not associated with the correct program file. This is manifested by the fact that DT0 files open in unusual applications or do not have an assigned program. This problem can be easily remedied.

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the DT0 file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install FME Desktop

The first step is to check if the computer has the FME Desktop program installed. This can be achieved by typing FME Desktop into the operating system search engine. If we do not have this program, it is worth installing it, as it will help you automatically associate the file DT0 with FME Desktop. Below you will find a list of applications that support DT0 files.

Step 2. Create association of FME Desktop with DT0 files

If, despite the installed application, the DT0 file does not start in the FME Desktop application, you must create a file association. This option is available from the level of Properties of a specific file available in the context menu. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. The program should be visible in the window, otherwise it should be selected manually using the "Browse" button and the program installation directory should be indicated. The "always use the selected program ..." field will set the FME Desktop application as the default for handling the DT0 file.

Step 3. Update FME Desktop to the latest version

If, however, after binding FME Desktop with DTED Level 0 Format there were still problems, you should update the program to the latest version. In this case, use the Safe Software Inc. website or update the program from the application.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the DT0 file

Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. File problems can be divided into the following:

Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. Usually this applies to DT0 files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. Perform a virus scan using available and up-to-date anti-virus software. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our DT0 file. Sometimes virus-infected DT0 files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
This can happen especially when the program is dynamically developed and the structure of the DT0 files changes over time. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
The file may be corrupted in a number of ways. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged DT0 files. The easiest way is to restore the file from a backup, if there is one, or contact National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
When reading, a message appears that the file was encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted DT0 files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. If possible, you can try to move the DT0 file to another location.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. In this case, the DT0 file is blocked by the first application to open it. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the DT0 file again. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If this does not work either, restart the device.
