The file with the extension DHV is the Misc Files file type. In addition to this file, the Misc Files category includes 6033 related files. Doc-To-Help Format Lock Format appears on 1 operating systems as a functional file. The file will work on Windows systems, unfortunately not on others. How to open DHV file?
The most common problem when using Doc-To-Help Format Lock Format is that a specific DHV is not associated with the program. This is manifested by the fact that DHV files open in unusual applications or do not have an assigned program. How to solve such a problem?
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the DHV file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install Doc-To-Help
An often overlooked issue is to make sure that Doc-To-Help is installed on the computer. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name Doc-To-Help in it. If it is not, installation may solve the problem, as most applications create file associations during installation. Below you will find a list of applications that support DHV files.
Programs to open DHV file
Remember to download programs supporting DHV files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of Doc-To-Help with DHV files
If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the DHV file still does not use the Doc-To-Help program, it means no association. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. The displayed window will contain information about the program that supports this type of file. Using the "Change" button we can select the desired program. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the DHV file with the Doc-To-Help program.
Step 3. Update Doc-To-Help to the latest version
If, despite the association of the Doc-To-Help program with the Doc-To-Help Format Lock Format file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the MadCap Software website and install the latest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the DHV file
Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. File problems can be divided into the following:
Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. Usually this applies to DHV files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. The only repair option is to download the file again.
The most common cause here is computer viruses. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. If this is not possible, you can use the online scanner. The scan should cover the entire computer, not only the DHV file that we want to open. Sometimes virus-infected DHV files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
Older version of DHV file may not always be supported by the latest software version. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
The file may be corrupted in a number of ways. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged DHV files. You can restore the file from a backup or use help.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted DHV files can be used by the device on which they were encrypted, on any other device it is required to have the appropriate cryptographic key and decrypt the file before its recovery.
Some of the system directories are excluded from modification. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. It is best to move DHV to a different directory.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. However, some background programs may block the DHV file while scanning. If nothing helps, please reset the device.
