What is BFI file?

The file with the extension BFI is the Database Files file type. It was designed by Statistics Netherlands. Database Files consists of 403 similar files. Blaise Index is supported by 1 operating systems. The file will work on Windows systems, unfortunately not on others. It is recommended to use Blaise to handle this file. This is a program created by Statistics Netherlands.

How to open BFI file?

The main problem with Blaise Index is that the BFI file is incorrectly associated with programs. This causes the file BFI to open by system applications not designed for this purpose, or to display a message that there is no associated program. How to solve such a problem?

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the BFI file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install Blaise

In this case, you should first verify that the Blaise application is installed on the computer. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name Blaise in it. If we do not have this program, it is worth installing it, as it will help you automatically associate the file BFI with Blaise. Later in this article you will find a list of programs that can open BFI files.

Remember to download programs supporting BFI files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.

Step 2. Create association of Blaise with BFI files

If, despite the installed application, the BFI file does not start in the Blaise application, you must create a file association. This option is available from the level of Properties of a specific file available in the context menu. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Changes can be made using the "Change" button. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the BFI file with the Blaise program.

Step 3. Update Blaise to the latest version

If, however, after binding Blaise with Blaise Index there were still problems, you should update the program to the latest version. In this case, use the Statistics Netherlands website or update the program from the application.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the BFI file

The problem may also be with the file itself if the above steps don't work. The most common file problems are:

The affected file may be 0 KB or smaller than expected. This is most often caused by a problem while downloading the BFI file. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The operating system may be infected with a computer virus. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. If this is not possible, you can use the online scanner. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our BFI file. Sometimes virus-infected BFI files cannot be recovered, so make a backup in advance.
This can happen especially when the program is dynamically developed and the structure of the BFI files changes over time. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
The file may be corrupted in a number of ways. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Some programs offer the ability to automatically repair BFI file corruption. You can restore the file from a backup or use Statistics Netherlands help.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted file BFI except for the special designation, works normally, but only on the device where it was encrypted, before transferring it to another machine, decryption is required.
Some of the system directories are excluded from modification. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. If possible, you can try to move the BFI file to another location.
This problem usually affects more complex files. In this case, the BFI file is blocked by the first application to open it. Closing other programs should help. If the error persists after closing other programs, wait for a while. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If nothing helps, please reset the device.
