What is AMR file?

The .AMR file is an audio file. This format is adapted to mobile devices (starting from class 3G). Prefers effective compression of human speech, making the compressed recordings take up a small amount of space in relation to the quality offered. It became the main format for recordings in voice recorders and telephones, and fostered messaging via MMS. It offers two quality standards: AMR-NB - lower quality and AMR-WB - better quality and larger target file size.

How to open AMR file?

The main problem with Adaptive Multi-Rate Codec Format is that the AMR file is incorrectly associated with programs. This causes the file AMR to open by system applications not designed for this purpose, or to display a message that there is no associated program. How to solve such a problem?

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the AMR file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install QuickTime Player

An often overlooked issue is to make sure that QuickTime Player is installed on the computer. The easiest method is to use the system search engine by entering the program name QuickTime Player in it. If we do not have this program, it is worth installing it, as it will help you automatically associate the file AMR with QuickTime Player. Below you will find a list of applications that support AMR files.

Programs to open AMR file

Remember to download programs supporting AMR files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.

Step 2. Create association of QuickTime Player with AMR files

If, despite the installed application, the AMR file does not start in the QuickTime Player application, you must create a file association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The window will show, among other things, the type of the file and the information by which the program is used to launch the file. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. Checking the "Always use the selected program ..." box will permanently associate the AMR file with the QuickTime Player program.

Step 3. Update QuickTime Player to the latest version

If, however, after binding QuickTime Player with Adaptive Multi-Rate Codec Format there were still problems, you should update the program to the latest version. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the Apple, Inc. website and install the latest version.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the AMR file

Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. File problems can be divided into the following:

Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. Usually this applies to AMR files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. Perform a virus scan using available and up-to-date anti-virus software. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. However, it is important to scan the entire system, not only the file AMR or the program directory. However, remember that not every infected AMR file can be recovered, so it is important to take care of regular backups.
Older version of AMR file may not always be supported by the latest software version. Help should be sought from the software developer, as they usually recommend using free file converters or installing an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for the failure. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged AMR files. The easiest way to restore the file is from a backup or by contacting N/A, but this one can be expensive. Not all damage can be reversed.
The program indicates that the file is encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted file AMR except for the special designation, works normally, but only on the device where it was encrypted, before transferring it to another machine, decryption is required.
Some of the system directories are excluded from modification. While there is usually no problem reading such a file, it may not be possible to save it. Copying the AMR file to another location will fix the problem.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Just close unnecessary programs. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the AMR file again. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If the problem persists, restart the machine.
