What is AHK file?
The file with the extension AHK is the Executable Files file type. The creator of this file is AutoHotkey. Additionally, the Executable Files category contains 140 of other files. AutoHotkey Script is supported by 1 operating systems. The file will work on Windows systems, unfortunately not on others.
How to open AHK file?
The most common problem when using AutoHotkey Script is that a specific AHK is not associated with the program. This is manifested by the fact that AHK files open in unusual applications or do not have an assigned program. This can be quickly resolved by following the instructions below.
The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the AHK file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.
Step 1. Install AutoHotkey
The first step is to check if the computer has the AutoHotkey program installed. This can be achieved by typing AutoHotkey into the operating system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below you will find a list of applications that support AHK files.
Programs to open AHK file
Remember to download programs supporting AHK files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.
Step 2. Create association of AutoHotkey with AHK files
If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the AHK file still does not use the AutoHotkey program, it means no association. The association can be created using the drop-down list available by right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. However, it is important to check the "Always use the selected program ..." box, this will allow you to permanently associate the AHK file with the AutoHotkey application.
Step 3. Update AutoHotkey to the latest version
If, despite the association of the AutoHotkey program with the AutoHotkey Script file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version.
Step 4. Check for the following problems with the AHK file
Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. The most common file problems are:
Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. This is most often caused by a problem while downloading the AHK file. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. Perform a virus scan using available and up-to-date anti-virus software. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our AHK file. However, remember that not every infected AHK file can be recovered, so it is important to take care of regular backups.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the AHK file. On their websites, developers usually offer free solutions to such problems, e.g. in the form of a conversion program or an older version of the program.
There can be many reasons for this. The repair method must be adapted to the type of file and damage. Sometimes the program itself has options to repair the most popular AHK file corruption.
When reading, a message appears that the file was encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted AHK files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
Some of the system directories are excluded from modification. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. If possible, you can try to move the AHK file to another location.
This can happen on a file that does not support multiple access. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the AHK file again. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If nothing helps, please reset the device.
