What is ABL file?

The ABL file has been categorized as Developer Files. The creator of this file is Xilinx, Inc.. Additionally, the Developer Files category contains 1205 of other files. ABEL Hardware Description Language appears on 1 operating systems as a functional file. The file will work on Windows systems, unfortunately not on others. It is recommended to use TMRTool to handle this file. This is a program created by Xilinx, Inc.. Alternatively, you can use 10 other programs. The ModelSim Xilinx Edition-III, ISE Simulator, PlanAhead, ChipScope Pro programs will also handle the file when the TMRTool program does not fulfill its role.

How to open ABL file?

The most common problem when using ABEL Hardware Description Language is that a specific ABL is not associated with the program. This causes the file ABL to open by system applications not designed for this purpose, or to display a message that there is no associated program. This can be quickly resolved by following the instructions below.

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the ABL file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install TMRTool

In this case, you should first verify that the TMRTool application is installed on the computer. To do this, enter the name TMRTool into the system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below you will find a list of applications that support ABL files.

Step 2. Create association of TMRTool with ABL files

If the application is or has been freshly installed, but the ABL file still does not use the TMRTool program, it means no association. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. The displayed window will contain information about the program that supports this type of file. Changes can be made using the "Change" button. It may happen that in the next window there will be no appropriate program - however, this can be corrected with the "Browse" option where you should manually indicate the program location. The "always use the selected program ..." field will set the TMRTool application as the default for handling the ABL file.

Step 3. Update TMRTool to the latest version

If, despite the association of the TMRTool program with the ABEL Hardware Description Language file, the file still does not open, check the program version and possibly update it to the newest version. Some applications allow you to update from the program level, and for others you need to download the installer from the Xilinx, Inc. page and install.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the ABL file

Of course, it may happen that despite the above steps, the file still does not work. File problems can be divided into the following:

Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. Usually this applies to ABL files downloaded from the Internet in case the download did not finish properly. Downloading the file again should fix the problem.
The computer may have fallen victim to a computer virus or hacker. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. Some antivirus vendors also provide free online scanners. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our ABL file. As a result of the scan, sometimes it is not possible to recover ABL files, which are deleted if there is a backup of this file, then after restoring it, it must also be scanned.
Older version of ABL file may not always be supported by the latest software version. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
There can be many reasons for this. Depending on the type of file, it is necessary to repair it accordingly. Some programs offer the option of recovering data from damaged ABL files. The easiest way is to restore the file from a backup, if there is one, or contact Xilinx, Inc.
When reading, a message appears that the file was encrypted or corrupted. The encrypted ABL files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
Some operating systems do not allow file operations in certain locations, eg in system directories or directly on the system drive. These directories are write-protected to them and it's very hard to fix this problem. Copying the ABL file to another location will fix the problem.
This problem usually affects more complex files. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Running programs (including those in the background) should be verified. Sometimes it is necessary to wait a while before referencing the ABL file again. However, some background programs may block the ABL file while scanning. If this does not work either, restart the device.
