What is AAT file?

The file with the extension AAT is the Misc Files file type. The creator of this file is Esri. In addition to this file, the Misc Files category includes 6033 related files. ArcInfo Line Data is supported by 1 operating systems. These systems consist of Windows, although it may occasionally be found on another system, it will be non-functional. The ArcInfo application is recommended to open the file. It was released by Esri.

How to open AAT file?

The main problem with ArcInfo Line Data is that the AAT file is incorrectly associated with programs. Thus, when you open AAT, the program selection wizard or some other program starts. This problem can be easily remedied.

The first thing you should do is just "doubleclick" on the AAT file icon you want to open. If the operating system has an appropriate application to support it and there is also an association between the file and the program, the file should be opened.

Step 1. Install ArcInfo

In this case, you should first verify that the ArcInfo application is installed on the computer. This can be achieved by typing ArcInfo into the operating system search engine. In the absence of an appropriate program, its installation in the vast majority of cases will fix the problem. Below is a list of programs that support the file AAT.

Programs to open AAT file

Remember to download programs supporting AAT files only from verified and safe sources. We suggest using the websites of software developers.

Step 2. Create association of ArcInfo with AAT files

However, it may happen that the application itself does not cause the AAT file to open in the ArcInfo application, but you can set it manually. It is most convenient to call the context menu with the right mouse button and select Properties. Information about the file and the program that the file is associated with are available here. Using the "Change" button we can set the program to handle this type. If there is no software on the list, simply select "Browse" and manually select the directory where the application is installed. The "always use the selected program ..." field will set the ArcInfo application as the default for handling the AAT file.

Step 3. Update ArcInfo to the latest version

If, however, after binding ArcInfo with ArcInfo Line Data there were still problems, you should update the program to the latest version. This can be done using the application (if it provides such options) or from the Esri website and install the latest version.

Step 4. Check for the following problems with the AAT file

If the above steps do not help, you can assume that the file itself is not correct. File problems can be divided into the following:

Very often, the file may be size 0 or incomplete. This is most often caused by a problem while downloading the AAT file. The file should be downloaded again, making sure that the process has finished correctly.
The most common cause here is computer viruses. A virus scan using an up-to-date antivirus program should fix the problem. Alternatively, you can use the scanners available online. For the best results, we will scan the entire operating system, not just our AAT file. As a result of the scan, sometimes it is not possible to recover AAT files, which are deleted if there is a backup of this file, then after restoring it, it must also be scanned.
A typical compatibility error - the program does not support the older version of the AAT file. These problems are known and are often very easy to fix using the software developers's website.
There can be many reasons for this. Repairing is very dependent on the file type. Some programs offer the ability to automatically repair AAT file corruption. You can restore the file from a backup or use Esri help.
The program can also signal the fact of encryption. The encrypted AAT files cannot be played on other computers than the one on which they were encrypted, they must be decrypted before using on another device.
The operating system protects files in some locations (e.g. the root of the system partition) against unauthorized access. The problem is only writing to the file, not reading it. Copying the AAT file to another location will fix the problem.
This problem only occurs with more complex files. You may find that another program you are using is preventing you from working with the file. Closing other programs should help. Sometimes you have to wait for the session to the file AAT to close. Antivirus programs or a backup being made may lock the file for a while without the user's knowledge. If the problem persists, restart the machine.
